Race Recap: BMO Vancouver Kids Race

I'm laying in bed typing this on my phone while London snores beside me. This kid is exhausted after a busy 9 days, on the west coast, with family and friends. Tomorrow, we have to head home.

Yesterday, I ran the BMO Vancouver Half Marathon under my sub 2 goal time and had a blast! I'll recap that later this week but for now I wanted to tell you about another race this weekend.

London ran his first race of 2016 and his longest distance!!!

The 2.5 km kids race is for children 5 to 12 years old. Thankfully, I spoke to the race director and they let London register (he is three!) I also registered my 7-year-old niece for her first race!

I picked up their race packages (shirt, gloves, snack, coupons and bibs) when I was volunteering at the expo earlier in the week and, the day before the race, taught them how to prepare their Flat Runners!

We made sure to have a good breakfast and then headed downtown around 9 am for an 11 o'clock start time.

We spent about an hour at the site pre-race. They have a mini festival set up with face painting, a sign making station, food and drinks and some games.

We took some photos and headed into our corral. Cloe's mom Nicole was running too (despite not being a runner! So impressive!)

They had the children line up by age groups so we took a spot near the back. They let each group go about a minute apart which was nice.

At just after 11, we were off!!

Our plan was to stick together and we did just that (despite Cloe wanting to "run faster!" The race was held in Stanley Park near the Lost Lagoon. We basically started at a nearby playground and then did one, big, loop around the water.

London mentioned , a few times, his legs were tired but every time I suggested we walk he would stop for literally two seconds and then take off running again! He doesn't like being passed...

We stopped at the water station (just passed the half way mark) for a quick drink and then took off running to the finish. Nana was waiting for us and cheering loud for the kids which made their day!

Before I knew it, London saw the finish line and, we were sprinting!

Final Time: 2.5 km- 23:08

London and Cloe were so proud of themselves and we were too!!

Thanks BMO for an AWESOME kids race!! It was well organized and London and Cloe loved their medals!! I think we have two future runners on our hands. Cloe came home and got her mom to sign her up for a race and London is already doing three more this month!
