I read a story yesterday about a young mom who got cancer and died. After her death, her husband posted a letter she had written to her Facebook page. The story hit me hard. I cried (at work) but I also smiled. Heather lived how I try and live every day. I live like every day matters. I focus on the moments, I am kind and I focus on finding the positive in every situation. Yes, I have my bad/sad/angry moments but I don't let them last long. I hope to continue teaching London that every day is an opportunity to create memories and be thankful for everything you have. Thank you Heather for these important reminders.
Life can change in an instant. For me, 2014 was going to be the year I got pregnant. I thought by 2015 I would have another son or a daughter to chase around and I would get to watch London be a big brother. Instead, my path changed.
So, I set new goals for 2015.
Here's a look back at those and if I accomplished them:
1. Set a new half marathon PR:
Done! After coming up short in Phoenix, Calgary and Seattle I ran a 1:51:44 at SeaWheeze in August.
Done! I continue to attend Body Pump classes at GoodLife Fitness. I also did Spin, Tabata, Pure/Total Barre and Yoga.
4. Take London on a monthly date:
Done! I think every time we're together it's like a date! We did lots of fun things together this year but some of my favourites were our trips to the Zoo, pottery at Colour Me Mine, and the Christmas Lights tour.
5. Continue family outings:
Done! I'm very lucky that Jarod and I have an awesome co-parenting relationship. We hang out as a family at least once a week. Sometimes we'll go swimming, or skating, or other times we'll just meet for supper or both go to his soccer or swimming lessons. Either way, we're doing an awesome job! I still consider Jarod a really good friend which helps.
6. Be a good friend:
I hope so but I think this is something I can always work on! I wish I took more time to have phone dates or send little notes to let people know I was thinking about them.
7. Learn how to use the bbq:
Yep! I used it a lot this summer and finally perfected chicken kabobs, veggie burgers and corn on the cob. Yummy!!
8. Limit my spending:
Nope. This did not happen. All my runcations killed me this year. I actually had to get a consolidation loan after NYC turned out to be a VERY expensive trip (followed closely by Vegas!) Next time, I'll save up for longer.
9. Travel to a new city:
Nope. I did a lot of traveling but no where new. I would love to go to San Diego or Chicago in 2016 but I'm not sure I can make it work financially after this year of traveling.
10. Be happy
Something I continue to work on every day. I want to find the good in every situation. Stay positive and strong. Be happy alone and with others. Trust my gut and follow my heart.
