Usually when I pick London up, from daycare, on Friday afternoons I let him decide what he wants to do. I gave him the choice of a movie, mini-golf or the park and he picked a movie! I was slightly relieved to be heading into an air-conditioned space because his cheeks were bright red and he was quite warm after spending the day outside with his friends. The next movie playing with Inside Out which we had both seen but he seemed excited to go again.
We grabbed some popcorn, found our seats and settled in to watch the movie. He did great until there was about 20 minutes left and an emotional scene came on. He started sobbing! I asked him if he wanted to leave but he said no and that he was "just sad mama." That's my sensitive kid <3
After the movie, he had a bit of a break down. I'm not sure if it was the emotions overflowing from the movie, lack-of-sleep or just his age but he was grumpy! He proceeded to have a temper tantrum the whole walk to the car, the drive to our place and once we got home. I had to peel him off the sidewalk outside our place.
Saturday. I woke up early to get my 10 mile run in (on the treadmill.)
Luckily, a good night sleep seemed to be the best cure for London. He woke up really happy so we decided to pack our bags and head to a nearby farm to see some animals. He was really shy at first but, after about half an hour, wanted to go back and see them all again (this time from much closer!)
The farm also has a corn-maze, playground and giant slide. We went down it at least 10 times.
On the way home we decided to stop and buy him a kiddie pool. It was already a hot day and I wanted to make sure he was keeping cool but having fun! While London napped, I filled up the pool, made myself lunch, and relaxed on the deck. He woke up really excited to jump in the pool!
We played outside all afternoon and, since we were having so much fun, decided to stay home and bbq (Taber corn and chicken!) for supper before calling it a night.
Sunday was another hot day so we woke up early with plans to head to a nearby lake. On the way there, we stopped by and dropped off our recycling and London got to keep the money to buy himself a treat from the concession (he picked a freezie.)
It was a gorgeous morning at the lake. We had it to ourselves for the first hour since it was only about 10:30. London was a little timid with the water, at first, but then spent the next two hours running in and out, splashing around and filling up his bucket to build sand-castles. He made a few little friends and I got to relax for a bit while they played.
He fell asleep on the way home but didn't want to nap once the car stopped (I'm sad that he doesn't transfer well anymore) so I put on a show for him, upstairs, while I did some laundry and cleaned up.
At 5, we met Jarod for supper and a park date.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous this weekend and I feel like we really took advantage of it! I can't believe it's already August. I'm working today but start my holidays on Thursday! I can't wait to head back home to see my family and to run Seawheeze!!
What's the last movie you saw?
Anyone else running Seawheeze? (We need to meet up!!)
Hi, I'm Kaella, a single mom, reporter and avid runner. I love sharing my workouts, race-recaps, and experiences in group fitness class, with you. I also talk about my four-year-old son London a lot. I'm slightly obsessed with NYC, Starbucks and 5 Cent Candies.
