Why I'm Running The NYC Marathon For Charity

I was really bummed when I didn't get in to the NYC Marathon lottery. I knew I had about an 18 percent chance but I really wanted to be one of the lucky ones. At first, I thought I would just find another marathon to run. I began researching other races, in North America, and reaching out to other runners for suggestions. Somewhere along the way, and thanks to some encouraging words from family, friends and social media contacts, I decided I wasn't willing to let go of my dream.

That's when I decided to run the NYC Marathon for charity.

I began researching the over 300 charity options available and Team For Kids seemed like a perfect fit! Team For Kids is made up of adults, from around the world, who are committed to running and to improving the lives of children. All money raised goes to international programs to help transform the lives of children who have no access to the regular physical activity they need to live healthy, productive lives.

As you know, physical activity is a big part of my life. It's also a big part of London's life. From the time he was born I've tried to be a good role model. We limit our screen time and try and spend most of our time being active like running on our treadmills, playing hockey, skating or swimming.

But, not everyone has those same opportunities. Each year, Team For Kids helps 200,000 children by offering them free, or low-cost, health and fitness programs.

So, this year, I'll be running the NYC Marathon for Team For Kids. In order to run the marathon, I need to raise $2620 before October 1st. I'm hoping to plan some fundraisers, and maybe even an online auction, but those are still in the works.

For now, I would love if you could help me reach my goal, and accomplish my dream, of running my first marathon in my favourite city in the world. Every little bit helps.

Thank you for your support!

Have you ever run a race for charity?
Anyone have any awesome fundraising ideas?
I'm thinking about an online auction. Does anyone have any idea of which companies are likely to donate?
