Taking My Running To A Whole New Level

I've officially dubbed 2015 " my year of running!" I want to do as many races as possible, have fun, hopefully PR and do what I love-- just run!

Today, I registered for a local marathon club. Since, I have a lot of races scheduled for next year I want to make sure I have a training plan in place. I usually train for races alone but 2015 is going to be different.

Marathon club kicks off in January and runs until the end of May. Each year, there are hundreds of people who take part. The runs are scheduled 2-3 times a week (you can pick if you run Saturday or Sunday or both!) You pick your pace and there's always someone to run with. I'm excited to meet some new running friends and stay motivated through the cold winter months. I won't be able to make every run club, because of my schedule with London, but I'll be there when I can.

I'll be doing the half marathon training to prepare the the Calgary Marathon May 31st.  It's one of my favourite races (even if this year was a little tough!)

I'm also thinking about getting a running coach to help me train for the NYC Marathon, next November, if I get accepted (through the lottery) to run it. I've always though about getting a coach and now would be a great time. I've contacted one, in NYC, that came highly recommended so I'll have to make a decision in the next few months. I'm comfortable with the half marathon distance but training for a marathon is a whole new ball game. It's intimidating!!!

I have some big running goals for 2015 and I'm excited to work hard to make them happen!

As for right now, I'm focusing on a fun half marathon I have on the schedule for Saturday. It's organized by a group of local runners and this year's theme is pretty awesome (stay tuned for photos!) I haven't really been training for this race but am comfortable with the distance so I plan to just take it easy and enjoy running with friends!  I also have another 23 miles to run, before Monday, to meet my November goal so I'll be running tonight after London goes to bed!

What are your thoughts on hiring a run coach?
Have you ever joined a run club? Do you prefer to train alone or with others?

  1. I've thought a lot about joining running clubs but never committed. I think it would be really good for me though because I push myself a lot more if there are other people around. I am definitely considering a running coach too. I really want to reach a sub 2 half but think I would need some help to do it. Your year of running is going to rock, can't wait to see everything you accomplish.

    1. I totally think you could crush a sub 2 half!! I think running on the treadmill when I was training for NYC made me faster (I set the speed and just forced myself to run intervals LOL!)

And, thank you! I'm excited to focus on something I love doing :) YAY Phoenix!!!

  2. I was part of a run club when I trained for my first half and my first full. I loved it. It kept me motivated for long runs since we ran together every Sunday morning. Even in -20 temps!
I probably would not hire a running coach, but that is because I enjoy doing plans etc myself and feel like I know myself better than someone else. I also cannot see anyone helping me meet any goals better than my own motivation.

    1. Yeah, I'm not sure on the running coach. It's a lot of money (that I don't have) and I do enjoy having some flexibility (especially with a child!!) I hope I love the running club as much as you did!
