Dear London: TWO YEARS OLD

Dear London,

Today, at 10:03am, you officially turn two. It's hard to believe you're already a two-year-old but I feel like you've been a part of our lives forever.

I can remember when I first found out I was pregnant. I was so excited and, often, dreamed about what you would look like and who you would grow up to be. Would you have your daddy's eyes or your mom's smile; your Nana's laugh or your Grandpa's sense of humour?

They placed you in my arms and the first thing I remember thinking is, I can't see his face! They had you facing the other way and I wanted to look at you. I cried from the moment I heard your cries but looking into your eyes for the first time was something so powerful I will never forget it. You made me a mommy and stole my heart. You weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces, were 19 3/4 inches tall and had a FULL head of dark hair!

The last two years have been filled with so many special moments and memories, including your first birthday party!

You've grown into a funny, sensitive, caring little boy. You give unprompted hugs and kisses and love to sit in our laps and cuddle.

You favourite thing to do these days is to watch and play hockey. We pull into the garage, after picking you up for daycare, and you run over to daddy's hockey sticks and say "Mommy/Daddy hockey?" You make it hard to say no. We usually throw down our stuff and play for a few minutes before heading inside to make supper. After supper, it's downstairs in the basement/playroom for more hockey. We've been taking you to some local games too and you love it!

You love to read books and will often disappear into your toy room and come back with a big stack you (gently) throw into one of our laps. You don't really watch Bubble Guppies anymore (or any television really) but will sit with the Ipad and watch Nursery Rhymes (which you now sing along too!) You can navigate the Ipad like any adult. Your daddy and I often laugh at the videos you manage to find.
You are a good eater and often eat more than mommy. You're a little picky but don't mind trying things as long as you have some sort of "dip." Your favourite meal is probably breakfast followed closely by a bedtime snack (popcorn is quickly becoming your new addiction!)

You continue to grow every day and are now over 3 feet tall and 32 pounds. You're still in 2T-3T clothes depending on the brand, size 5 diapers and size 7-8 shoes. You have all of your teeth except your two-year-molars which I believe you're cutting right now. You still have your sucky (soother) but that's the next thing to go. Then, we'll work on potty training. You haven't shown too much interest yet, so we're not going to push you. You have been going to bed early (for you) these days around 8-8:45 which makes me happy and sad. It's hard to squish all the fun I want to have with you between 5 and 8 o'clock every day. I live for the weekends. I know you're tired because you put your hand down your shirt or mommy or daddy's. It's something you've done since you were a baby and is still as cute as can be!

You love having baths and swimming. You're definitely a water baby like mommy. We are planning to sign you up for swimming lessons again in the spring and then soccer next fall (when you're old enough.) You love all sports but hockey, football and soccer seem to be your favourites! We always have to bring a ball along to the park now since you love to head down to the open field and play pass. You also love to run! You're fast and will often ask mommy to race or to "chase me!"

You're so smart buddy. You are speaking in sentences (sometimes missing a word or two) and have almost got the whole alphabet down. You have a great memory (you must get this from your daddy) and only need to be shown or told something once.
London, you have two parents that love you more than anything in this world. We are so happy you are ours and are excited to continue to watch you grow. Even though things are going to be a little different now we want you to know that you are our number one priority, and making you happy, and showing you how much we love you is the only thing that matters.
Love Mommy (and Daddy)
