My 5 Item Survival Kit

My husband bought me runners the other day. I seriously thanked him, non-stop, for the next 24 hours. They were an early birthday present since my birthday is still a month away. I feel like I am easy to please when it comes to gift-buying; but, him not so much.

It hasn't always been tough. We've been together almost eight years and he's a big sports fan. I spent the five few years buying him jerseys, tickets and apparel for all his favourite teams. He loved it but has everything he wants now. I moved on to sentimental gifts once our son was born but he's not really a romantic/sentimental guy. The gifts were never put out and I usually ended up loving them move than he did. With his birthday and Christmas coming up soon I'm, once again, searching for ideas.

I recently discovered a company called Man Crates. They market themselves as the "Ultimate Source of Gifts For Men." Their packages come in wooden boxes with a personalized crowbar to open them. Petty cool! They have sport, food and gamer themed ones (to name a few.) I think Jarod would like the Slaughter House or Bacon Crate since he loves his meat and I don't eat it (besides chicken.) It would be a box just for him!

I don't know if the company plans to create crates for chicks but It kind of got me thinking what I would like in my own.

My 5 Do Or Die Essentials:

1. Mizuno Wave Riders:

These babies are my go-to workout shoes. I wear them for runs 4-5 times a week, strength training and chasing my son around at the park. These are the shoes my husband just picked up for my birthday.

2. EOS Lip Balm

I wear a lot of makeup for work and then none after hours and on weekends. One thing I always have in my purse is lip balm. It'd be tough to choose between Blueberry Acai and Pomegranate Raspberry though.

3. An Iphone

Yes, I'm slightly addicted to my phone. If I had to I would give up my social media apps but couldn't handle not being able to call or text my family and friends whenever I wanted to. I would be horrible in a show like Big Brother or Survivor when you're cut off from the outside world! I also use it to track my runs and upcoming races and for workout ideas and inspiration. Plus, I take a lot of photos and blog, mostly, from my phone. Sadly, this should probably be number one on my list!

4. Apples & Peanut Butter

Yes, I'm counting these as one since you can't have one without the other in my books. I go through a disgusting (to some) amount of each of these. I usually eat two apples a day and a jar of peanut butter (or almond butter) every two weeks. It's my post-workout fuel and my favourite snack!

5. A Treadmill

This one is kind of a tough one. I LOVE running outside but, when I was a new mom, this was my life saver! It also helped me training for the NYC Half Marathon during our worst winter in years! I also love my BOB running stroller (both allow me to train while not sacrificing time at home) but I would say I use my treadmill more than the stroller year-round.

So, those are 5 things that I would include in my crate (apparently a big one, haha!)

What would you include in your crate?
Do you prefer running on the treadmill or outside?

This post was inspired by Man Crates but I was not compensated in any way.  All opinions are my own.

  1. I have seen these before! I think someone actually emailed me about doing a review on one a while back! They look pretty sweet, and I agree they should do a chick on... but a treadmill, K? Really? hahaha that'd be a pretty giant crate!

  3. I am loving these crate ideas. Mitch is totally a hard to buy for hubby too. Basically the same story as you - Leafs fan - has everything he needs. And not too much of a sentimental gift guy. I'm totally going to look into these. His birthday is NOvember, then Christmas soon after.

And I love your list. I love EOS lip balms. My favorite.

  4. Oh this is a good one hmmmm... I take my fitbit with me everywhere. I also hate when my polar heart rate monitor batteries die. I have to have some sort of lip product, but I rotate between a few (burt's bees, sugar lip treatment, and jouer essential lip enhancer).
