Back To Back Half Marathons

So this happened...

I am officially signed up for half marathon #4 and #5 next month. I committed to the LRPS half awhile back but I found out about the Canmore race and couldn't get it off my mind. My amazing mom bought me the race entry for an early birthday gift!! She's the best!

The race is Sept 7th and the LRPS one is the 13th. 6 days apart. I reached out for advice from other bloggers and on twitter (#runchat) and got amazing feedback. Thank you to everyone who took time to respond!! I won't be breaking any records in Canmore and plan to simply enjoy the gorgeous scenery. I'll likely run two short easy runs in between the two and lots of rest, foam rolling and stretching. 

I have no idea why I decided to sign up for a half after a tough long run Sunday but that's what runners do. We forget about bad runs and disappointing races because we love to run!

I really do LOVE races but I'm especially excited for this one for a few reasons:

met Jo a long time ago (maybe 8-9 years and I'm not sure if she even remembers that) but we only recently started to chat online. I've been promising her I would come visit her in Canmore and now it's finally going to happen!

I met Jen in June after she won my Color Me Rad race entry and I invited her to run with my friends and I. It felt like we had been friends for ages (blogging will do that!) She's training for the NYCM and it'll be awesome to do another race with her.


I'm turning 31 the day after the race so it's a great way to end my 30th year with my 4th half!! 

I really can't wait!! I still have to figure out the logistics since I'll have to bring London with me but I will make it work :) 

I've been trying to really put myself first lately. To focus on what I want (and what's best for London.) Even though not everyone understands my love and commitment to running, or supports it, it is a big part of my life and I'm happy I'm able to do it. 

Anyone else done back to back races? Any tips?

  2. Back to back races - that's impressive!! And half-marathons, to boot! The Canmore run will be a beautiful run, I'm sure. The longest race I've ever done is 10K. I don't know that I have the mental capability to run anything longer! After having my baby 6 months ago, I didn't ever think I'd feel ready to start working out again, but I'm finally feeling like my old self and ready to get back into running. But I'm going to start with a 5K (hopefully this September), first ;)

    1. You can totally rock a half marathon!!! It takes time though... I started with the Couch to 5K program and then ran my first half 10 months later :)

  3. The Canmore half was my first half 4 years ago! Such a beautiful course. A bit challenging with those hills but the mountains help keep your mind off the pain.

    I did back to back halfs just before I got pregnant with my first. It was tough, esp bc the weather sucked for the first one but it was much nicer a week later!

    1. Funny... I actually googled the race when I was thinking about doing it and your race recap popped up! I'm not excited for the hills but I plan on taking it easy anyway. I am going to have to put my feet up after i'm done, haha!

  5. So fun! I've ran half marathons back to back and it wasn't terrible. Just don't go into both expecting PR's and you will be set :) Maybe I'll come out and cheer you on!
