A Very Inspiring Blogger Award

I LOVE getting to know bloggers better (I'm a journalist so I am naturally inquisitive) and I hope you feel the same way. I was recently nominated by two fabulous ladies for the "Inspiring Blogger Award."

Jessica is a busy mom of two. She's a group-fitness instructor who blogs about learning to live a fit, healthy lifestyle. If you need motivate to workout, eat right and lead your best life stop by her blog The Fit Switch.

She's currently training for the NYC Marathon (<my dream race.) She's a Registered Dietician and Makeup Artist and has great tips on eating healthy and looking good ;)

7 Facts About Me:

1. I grew up in Windsor, Ontario but call White Rock, British Columbia home. I'm a west-coast, ocean, girl at heart and feel most at home with my toes in the sand and a clear view of the horizon.

2. I wanted to be an actress growing up. Besides the school plays, I got an agent and had SMALL roles in a few movies. I also voiced a character for a video game. I switched my direction to broadcasting after getting hired as a roaming television host/reporter when I was 16. My first job was to learn how gelato was made followed by learning to hang-glide. It was a tough gig ;)

3, I'm terrified of public speaking. I realize that's strange considering what I do for a living but I really only talk to the camera for my job. Unfortunately,I get asked to Emcee events. I don't like saying no (especially when it's for a good cause) so I suck it up. It never gets easier though. My hands shake, my voice trembles and I begin to sweat. I usually can't focus on anything until it's over.

4. I don't like eating chicken at restaurants. I don't eat red meat but I do love chicken and fish. I prefer to cook my chicken at home after a horrible experience with food poisoning 15 years ago. Yes, it was that bad! Even when I cook chicken at home I usually over-cook it.

5. I am passionate about finding a cure for Crohn's and Colitis. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2004. I had lost my Nana to complications from ulcerative colitis (both considered Inflammatory Bowel Diseases) five years earlier. I have served as local chapter president, help start a National youth group from those 15-25 that suffer from IBD and sat on the National foundation's board. I have also volunteered at The Painted Turtle, in California, with children who have IBD (a life-changing experience!) Finding a cure starts with spreading awareness, and getting people talking about it, so that's my focus. You can read about my Crohn's story HERE and HERE (Guest Post on

6. I almost moved to NYC. About 10 years ago, my girlfriends and I decided we should sublet a place in Manhattan. We all love the city and wanted an adventure. Then, one of us (I think it was probably me) got a boyfriend and we had to squash that dream. So now, I'm constantly thinking about how I can plan a trip to NYC. Seriously, I LOVE that city! Besides, White Rock, it's my happy place. If I had all the money in the world I would buy a place so I could go visit as often as possible (hotels are crazy expensive in Manhattan!)

This is what all the New Yorkers do, right?

7. I want to run a Marathon someday. My friends will laugh at this one. I've always said I would NEVER run a marathon but now it's on my bucket list! 2016 NYCM I'm coming for you! (If I get into the lottery!)

My nominations: (I am breaking the rules and only doing 8)

1. Court at You're Kidding Right.
Because she's my best friend and a hilarious writer!

2. Janae at Hungry Runner Girl
Because she's one of the sweetest people and loves running as much (okay, probably more) than I do.

3. Rachel at Betty Livin
Because she's from the same city as I am and shares her incredible hiking adventures (and photos) on her blog.

4. Alycia at Crazily Normal
Because she's also from the same city and shares lots of mom stories and tips!

5. Dori at Dori's Shiny Blog
Because I found her blog through google (NYC Half Marathon blog post) and re-read her race recap a million times because my NYC Half in March. She is a passionate and inspiring runner.

6. Julie at PB Fingers
Because she's the first blogger I ever discovered. She's gorgeous, inspiring and seems so down to earth. I'm convinced we would be bff's if we ever met. Her dog Sadie is adorable and very often the star of her posts ;)

7. Alison at Life And Times of Alison and Justin
Because she's another Southern Alberta blogger who is not only super stylish (and so is her daughter) but also rocking a hot post-baby body!

8. Ali at Ali On The Run
Because she's also got IBD. I love reading her posts about finding joy in the little things. She's also a passionate (and speedy) runner!

Okay, your turn.
Tell me two random facts about yourself!

  1. That's so interesting that public speaking terrifies you. Also, I definitely need to hit you up for some tips before my NYC trip.

    1. You bet! I will talk about NYC all day if given the chance ;)

  2. I love learning more about people! Public speaking terrifies me and I am so glad that I don't have to do it for my job. Two random facts about me: I don't have a middle name and I've never had a bloody nose.

    1. That's crazy about the nose bleeds!! I've had so many! It's funny about the middle name too. I almost didn't give London one because you don't really need one hahahaha

  3. I love learning more about people too! I got a kick out of the fear of public speaking considering your career! I'm a very shy person by nature, especially in public, yet I work in a job where I cannot be shy and have to make small talk with strangers every single day (ok, when I'm not on mat leave that is!) My husband doesn't get it lol.

I think I actually remember reading your post on PBF now that you bring it up. I was diagnosed with UC at age 13 and ended up having surgery at age 18. Your story is very inspiring and I wish I could say that I threw myself into organizations like you did!

    1. Oh wow! I love meeting others with IBD! Throwing myself into volunteering was the only way I could "get through" my feelings at the time. I'm in a better place now but I was very scared, and alone, at the start of my diagnoses. I hope you're feeling okay these days!!

  4. When you get all the money in the world, can I come to NYC with you? I've never been but I want to go SO BAD. I've always thought you and Julie look alike. You're both so cute!

    1. Aww you're sweet! YES, you can come to NYC with me! I feel like we have so many fun things planned!! You'll be my nanny at the lake, I'll come hike with you and then we'll go to NYC. Deal! :)

  5. Thank you so much for the shout out!!! And I LOVED learning more about you! <3 <3

  6. This was fun! If you're going to run a marathon NYC is it! I've done it 3 times and it's still my fave. If I didn't work the race, then I'd still be running it! And food poisoning will scare you away from something forever. I haven't had crab legs in over 10 years because of it!

    1. YES!! I'm going for it!! I love that you get to work it as well. Your "On The Run" segments got me through a lot of my NYC Half training earlier this year, haha! You always do so great! And, that's too bad about crab legs, they're delicious! I'm heading back to the coast this weekend and crabs are on my must-eat-list!! :)

  7. So fun to learn about you ( and the folks you nominated). I too have a degree in journalism! -M

    1. Oh cool!!! I love meeting other people who went to school for journalism! I'm jealous of all the disney races you have done! They're on my race bucket list!!!

  8. Loved reading this!! Public speaking makes me ill. I cannot do it. Yet I can stand in front of a classroom and teach! ha :) But your job sounds super fun and you seem to get to do awesome stuff! I have never been to NYC but I will be going in June for my brothers wedding!! And thank you - you are the best!
