My Next Race & London's FIRST Race!

So, now that I'm done the Calgary Marathon, it's time to start thinking about my next race and my summer racing schedule.

This Saturday, I'll be running Ladiesfest. The women-only event is capped at 750 participants and always sells out fast because it's so popular. The event is geared towards promoting women's health, fitness and well-being in the community. The 8K course winds through the Lethbridge river-valley and ends at a local hotel where you get flowers, chocolate and brunch- yum! The course is beautiful but there's a BRUTAL hill at the end. I was able to run the whole hill last year (at a snail's pace) and hope to do the same this year.

Source (no, this isn't the hill!)

Last year, I finished in 49:37. My goal this year, taking that awful hill into account, is under 47 minutes.

I took Monday and Tuesday off from any exercise, after the Calgary Half Marathon Sunday. My legs were pretty sore so I wanted to give them some time to recover. Today is Wellness Wednesday at work so l will be running home from work (6.5ish miles) and going to try my hand at that hill as a warmup for Saturday!

When I got home from work last night, I spent about 10 minutes catching up with London over some yogurt raisins. Easily my favourite part of the day.

Then, for the first time, Jarod took him to swimming lessons. I had the house to myself for an hour which never happens (it was strangely quiet) so I chose to sit on the couch and catch up on the PVR 😜

My run club girls are now talking about doing the Better Half Marathon June 21st. I was undecided at first since I have a Colour Me Rad 5K on the 28th. Plus, I have already exceeded my race budget for the year because of the NYC HALF! Then, my friend Leighanne told me there's a 1.1 km kids race and I thought it would be a perfect first race for London! Her daughter completed it last year when she was 20 months old too! The kids even get a t-shirt, bib and medal! London LOVES to come running with me in the stroller or chase me around the park. I'm excited to see how he does (I completely expect him to run two steps and then throw himself down on the ground, hahahaha!) My girlfriends are going to sign up their toddlers so it should be a blast! hilarious!

I just have to decide between the 5K or the 10K. I WOULD like to attempt to get a new 10K PR and that course would be perfect. It's 2 x 5K Loop with very few hills. My only complaint is that the paths are narrow and a lot of people walk so it can get congested. I SHOULD stick to the 5K since I'll have to ask my mom to come watch London after he finishes his race. I feel bad being gone for almost an hour!

I guess I'll decide this morning when I register. I'm officially a RACE ADDICT!

Other than Ladiesfest, Colour Me Rad and The Better Half I haven't signed up for anything else this year. I am on the hunt for a fall half marathon and would love to do a 10K at some point too.

Sidenote: I am really excited to get my mileage back up again. I'm still eating like I'm training for a half. Monday's are the best worst because I host a Bachelorette viewing party with my girls and there's always a LOT of food and liquor. Monday night was June's birthday so there was also lots of desserts!

Becky also let me borrow her T25 so I should probably try and make some time to try that as well as increasing my mileage!

Have a GREAT day!

What's on your summer race schedule?

  1. FUN! I wish we had a race like that here. And that is awesome you are putting London in a race! I cannot wait to have Avery in them :)
I have the Color Me Rad 5km, Mud Hero and that is all so far. I want to get a 10km PR too so might look for a race in the summer there, then I want to do a half in late September or October.

  4. That's fun that you are getting your son involved in running :) I am not signed up for any more races this summer...I'm scared of my knee regressing and not being able to run another race :(

    1. Awww! Totally understandable!! Hope things heal quick and you can get back to running and racing. If you're anything like me you are dying to get back out there!

  5. Omigosh I can't even imagine trying to get Liam to run 1.1km haha I can just see him running four steps then being distracted and turning around. I can't wait to hear how it goes. Some day I would love Liam to run, some of the guys at work had their kids in the kids race in Calgary last weekend. One finished the 1km in like 4 minutes and something, that's crazy fast!

I'm doing Color Me Rad (I hope!) and Mud Hero. Obviously I don't have time to train for much but it would be fun to do a 5k with Liam
