Going Back To NYC!!!!

If you were to list 10 things about me, you'd probably put "loves nyc" somewhere on that list. It's true. I love New York City.

It's the first, and only, place I've ever travelled solo. I did four days in The Big Apple in October 2006. I went back with my sister in law and niece twice in 2008 and 2009.

The city makes me feel alive. I love the crowds, the buildings, the energy. I also love theatre and nyc is home to the best! I've seen Chicago, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King on Broadway.

I even love NYC so much I somehow convinced my husband to have a nyc themed wedding with tables names after my favourite attractions, metro "subway" cards as your seating card and a map of Manhattan with your table locations. The candy buffet also features the famous skyline and the candy jars had famous nyc landmarks in each of the treats' names. It was a perfect day and I loved our theme.

I haven't had a chance to go back in a few years and I miss it. So, when I started running I set a big goal: I wanted to run the NYC half marathon. The race starts in Central Park, does a loop (hello horrendous hills haha!) and then takes you down Broadway, past Wall Street and to the South Street Seaport (hello view of lady liberty!) I threw my name in the lottery last year and actually got in. I didn't go because I wasn't ready to run a half. I didn't tell a soul... Until now haha!!

When I saw the application for 2014 had opened I knew it was something I really wanted to do. I was already trained for a half, London was old enough to have my away for a few days and I knew I could convince a friend, or two, to tag along!

So, Katie and I both threw our names in the hat and we found out last week we were chosen!! March 16th, we will be running with 14,998 others in my favourite city!!

My besties Courtney and Tawnya are also coming and I couldn't be more excited!! We have plans to see Wicked, go for a fancy supper, try and see a tv show taping and just explore! I'm almost more excited about the trip than I am the run!!!

As for my goals for the half, well, I have made it known I would like to run a sub two hour race before baby #2. To be honest, I'm not sure NYC is going to be the place that happens. I'll be tired, in a new city, running on a hilly course and probably just enjoying the race course scenery! We shall see!! I'm also doing the Calgary half in June so I'm not going to be too much pressure on myself!

I'm so excited for a much needed getaway! I'm going to miss London like crazy (it'll be my first time away from him overnight!) but happy to be going with a bunch of other moms who will feel the same way!

83 days!!!
